The Plague by Joanne Dahme
In 14th century England, 15-year-old Nell and her younger brother, George, are overcome by grief when both their parents die of the plague. But their destiny seems to take a sudden turn for the better when the King himself notices Nell in the street, because of her amazing semblance to his daughter, Princess Joan.

From that day on, Nell and her brother are taken to the royal palace and employed as servants of the Princess. Nell is to be her double in times of danger, but meanwhile she becomes her friend.

Unfortunately, while traveling to Spain in order to marry Prince Pedro, Princess Joan is taken away by the 'black death' (as the plague is euphemistically referred to). Thus, Nell and George are once again orphaned. The plot becomes darker as we discover that Joan's brother, The Black Prince, has been making evil plans concerning Nell. ..

I've also enjoyed Joanne Dahme's first novel, Creepers, but this one is better! Her style has become more refined, the characters are well constructed and the novel is a pleasant read, especially if you're into historical fiction.
