A Saying That I Hate!
There are so many ignorant and immature people in this world.  Most of them are heartless. I say this because some of the following statement, makes no sense and can hurt the feelings of people around you. For example, "That's gay," can offend many people. It's like implying that gay people are stupid or dumb or something. I'm not gay, so don't think I'm just sticking up for my kind. I'm just trying to stick up for other people when nobody else wants to.  Does anybody else feel this way? If so, you aren't one of the ignorant or immature people as a mentioned before. But rather someone who cares for the environment and people who live in it. Oh gosh, now I sound like a freakin' hippie, don't I?

I understand. I have alot of gay/bi friends and before I used to say "That's gay" alot, but once I started having gay friends and I saw how much it bothered them I don't say it anymore. Its morally and ethically wrong.

I agree. My older brother and his friends said it so much that (at the time) my three year old brother was saying that phrase.

its meaning is lost in etymology. You know that sinister means not only "evil" but also "left-handed." Know why? Because long time ago people thought left-handed people were weird and evil. Of course now we know that's ridiculous but the word still hasn't really lost its meaning (at least in poetry). If you call a person sinister, you can be calling him or her evil or left-handed. Same thing with "gay." Long time ago, some people thought being gay was sick. Now it's undergone a social reform but the word still has its meaning among a certain group of people.

it's become slang, and ppl don't think about it. i don't say it, and i do notice it, but honestly, i know a lot of ppl don't. it's unfortunate, and i guess it is ignorant, but...yeah, i donno...

I used to use that saying a lot. Like 20 times a day. All of my friends did. I even have a friend that is gay that used the saying. I don't have anything wrong with the saying or gay people for that matter. I think that anyone in this century would realize that it is not an insult pointed out at them but if it were less obvious I'm sure the saying would be used less often. It's good to know that I'm not the only person who isn't against the different sexualities.

I dont understand society these days, I mean we are quick enough to accept divorce and more than happy to accept a leap in the development in technology yet too ignorant to accept different sexualities. I agree with you 100% but another hate is when people are like " obviously he is a gay"..."a gay"?? why say it like a bad thing...even more why point it out at all? Grrr.!

I don't know why I use that phrase. I actually don't know if I use it anymore. Maybe I do and never realize it, but I do know that I've used it.
I think there is nothing wrong with it. I think anyone offended by the saying should either try to convince black people that by calling themselves "niggas" they are initionally bringing back a time they they've tried oh-so-hard to keep away, OR, they can just gather up all their maturity and realize the statement is not mean't as a lash-out at gays. It is purly used as a way to describe something that's "stupid".

I see what you mean, I'm not gay either, but people shouldn't be made fun of for who they are.
