Johnny the Homicidal Maniac
I'm guessing that not many people know about the "cult comic", Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Well, let me tell you, that I read it and it is the coolest series I have ever laid eyes on. On a scale of one to ten, I would give this comic an 11. But that's just my opinion. Let me tell you more about it.

The guy who writes these comics is called Johnan Vasqez [I think that's how you write his last name...:)]. He is the same guy who draws the cartoon Invader ZIM, which I love as well. The man is obsessed with Goths and potatoes. The only difference between the two cartoons is that JTHM is much more graphic when it comes to violence and language. (Don't worry parents, it's mainly just f___  and  s___ I've only seen the word bitch used once, and I haven't seen the slightest trace of the word C - - -. But I wouldn't know. I've only read 2 full issues...)

The art in these comic books is amazing, and quite unique. I cannot even explain the beautifully disturbing depictions that this guy can conjure. His insanity brings to life realistic characters. Some are troubled and expressing their pain in a horror movie-like fashion. Some in a strange sort of bliss. Others are cruel and harsh, and the rest just in between. The characters, even for a comic book, are so real, and profound. You'd probably think that he transferred his own experiences onto paper.

I never expected myself to be into comic books, after years of knowing the mainstream exists...action figures, superhero's, anime, you know stuff like that. But the minute I opened a JTHM issue, I was hooked, and I saw this man's profound outlook on life and what, in life, was in need of acceptance by those who understood.

I used to enjoy writing my own little comics for fun, but then it got boring because I didn't have the energy to draw too long of a strip. And now, but only as a hobby, Johnan Vasqez has rekindled the flame inside me that screams "comic book artist".

And not only do I read his comics for entertainment, I've realized that the series is just starting out (there are about 6 issues so far)! So now I finally have the chance to collect a full series of something!

So I highly recommend JTHM to anyone who is, or considers themselves disturbed in the least molecule of a degree. Only one word sums it up, and that is REVOLUTIONARY. I mean, if the comic sucks (although you do have the right to your opinions), why would they give this guy - Oops! I mean, GENIUS - his own TV show and comic book series?

You can buy JTHM comics at Hot Topic. Coincidentally the perfect place for such a great piece of art. I don't go into comic shops, so I don't know if they're sold there, but they probably are. Also there is a thick book of some kind based on something to have to do with JTHM at Hot Topic, too...I don't know. I'll have to get a better look at it when I go shopping there again.

The comic is quickly becoming a big part of my life and I'm getting very interested in it. It speaks to me!

Well, see ya!
And I hope you take my advice and take at least ONE LITTLE PEEK! You won't be sorry!

P.S. One more thing, I DO NOT AT ALL RE-CREATE OR WISH TO RE-CREATE ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING I SEE IN THESE COMIC BOOKS. SO DON'T THINK I AM SOME SORT OF PSYCHO WHO ENJOYS THE ADRENALINE RUSH OF RIPPING PEOPLE IN HALF. I'm not THAT crazy!

Hey I'm glad you got a hold of some JtHM, it's a brilliant comic. The creator's name is Jhonen Vasquez, by the way. He's done a lot of stuff actually, JtHM was his first comic book. After that he did Squee!, the Filler Bunny book(this isn't it's actually title but I'm too lazy to go check my copy..), The Bad Art Collection, Invader Zim, I Feel Sick and Everything Can Be Beaten as well as lots of other collaborations and stuff put together by Slave Labor Graphics (they're the smart, smart people who publish his work) and other people...he's actually really prolific, it was foolish of me to think I could list all his work. The bigger book at Hot Topic that you speak of is most likely the 'director's cut' of JtHM, so it has all the Nny parts of the seven issues, although it leaves out the MEANWHILES and such.
Some of your reviews are a little disparaging, but don't listen to them ( actually think for yourself, but let me get up on my soapbox here for just a second) Firstly, Jhonen doens't use a 'hook' to make peole buy his work, he writes what he wants for himself and then if people like it, cool, if they don't he still doesn't care because it's his art and he's doing what he likes. Also, you said you haven't read the last issues - definately do so, I don't think they get 'boring' they're just as brilliant as the earlier ones, only the killing isn't as gratuitous. The seventh issue even alludes to Kafka's 'The Metamorphosis'..so cool. Anyway, these are really clever, funny comics, so keep reading and basking in the reflected glory of great art.

I really, really like Jhonen Vasquez's comics. I have the first two issues of Squee! and I'm asking for the Johnny the Homicidal Maniac collection for my birthday. Pepito's really funny.. Some call him "The "Altar Boy of Doom," and "The Dark Prince," and he has a dog named Woofles! Ah.. I :) those comics.. I was going to get #3 and #4, but my local comic book store didn't have them in stock. I'll go back and buy them when I've got some more money.

his name is Jhonen Vasquez...:sigh: I remember when I liked his stuff until I dscovered that he's using the same cliche that movies, tv, media use to make people watch them: violence.

The comic is sold at an extremely reasonable price: $2.95 per issue. Yes, Jhonan is the man behind Squee!. Also, he does a series entitled "I feel Sick". :)
